An incident leading to damage to your property can be quite stressful and it is important to understand that you may have obligations under your insurance policy.
Most policies require that you take immediate action to prevent further damage or injury from occurring. This is commonly known as an "emergency make-safe" and is the responsibility of the Owners Corporation to carry out. An example of this would be having tarpaulins installed on your roof after a hail storm/roof damage, to prevent further water entering your building.
Whilst some insurers may help you arrange this if you contact them, the policy obligation rests with the policy holder so it is up to you to make sure it gets done.
Once you have carried out your emergency obligations under your insurance policy, you may then notify us of the incident and lodge a claim for reimbursement.

It is possible to be reimbursed by the insurer for Loss of Rent or Temporary Accommodation in certain circumstances.
If you find yourself in a situation where your lot is unfit for occupation and you are unable to contact the relevant insurer then you should treat your situation as if you were uninsured. Any potential reimbursement can only be reviewed after the claim is lodged and relevant documentation is provided.
Please note the Loss of Rent or Temporary Accommodation section of the policy will generally only apply to an owner’s loss, not a tenants.
The above information is provided as a guide only and does not consider the exact insurance contract you have in place. Please ensure that you have read and understood your policy documents to ensure you are aware of your obligations. Once you have carried out your emergency obligations under your insurance policy, you may then notify us of the incident and lodge a claim for reimbursement.
